Skipping Stones Designer Showcase

Good Morning, everyone!!!

Welcome to SSD's Designer Showcase!

Today is a day dedicated to the newest stamp set for the release. It's actually a little sneak before the blog hop tomorrow.  You are going to LOVE this new set!  If you'd like to see a few other sneaks, just click the link above and go to the Skipping Stones Blog.

Introducing Bras - Vol. 3!!!  The original set is what brought me to SSD in the first set.  I remember wanting to make cards for Breast Cancer Awareness month and stumbled upon Skipping Stones.  The Bras - Vol. 1 set and Cancer Schmancer were the first purchases I made.  So, needless to say, this is going to rank right up there with those two sets.

Bras - Vol. 3!
I love Cosmo Cricket's newest paper called Tea for Two.  The colors and patterns were perfect for the background, as well as the paper-piecing on this card.

Great sentiment for the inside!

I used the Deconstructed Sketch #64 for my card today.  I loved the big bow right in the center.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for the blog hop & sketch challenge where you will have a chance to win this new set!

Materials Used (All PTI, unless otherwise noted):
Skipping Stones Design - Bras: Vol. 3 stamp set
Limitless Layers 3 1/2" Ovals

Fun with Washi Tape

Good morning, fellow crafters!

Today I have an awesome way to use Washi Tape!  We all love it.  We all want more of it!  But, if you are like me, you don't use it nearly enough.

I'm also sort of addicted to patterned paper........so, much so that I could probably do sets and sets of cards just showcasing the paper....lol  Well, when you have a great little sentiment set like Paper and Such's Simple Sentiments........you can make great cards featuring patterned paper and Washi tape!  ;-)

Such fun colors and patterns!!!

When making this type of card, picking a patterned paper that has a "line" type pattern is essential for keeping the tape straight.  I could easily use the pattern to make sure my tape was adhering in a straight line. As you can see, I used 2 types of Washi tape and some cardstock, so that I could have something to stamp my sentiment.

This type of card is so simple to make and can easily be mailed since it is flat.........but, if you would like to jazz it up, that top rectangle would be perfect for a flower or some other kind of embellishment!

You have to give credit where credit is due and I found my inspiration for using the Washi Tape from the iSpy Sketches #27.  It was the perfect sketch to cause my brain to go on the Washi tape journey that it did.  I'm so happy that I spotted it!

Materials Used:
Paper and Such - Simple Sentiments stamp set
Basic Grey patterned paper - What's Up
Target Washi Tape
PTI - Ocean Tides and Kraft cardstock
VersaFine ink - Onyx Black

Super Hero T-shirts!!!

Good morning, everyone!

I recently had a request to put one of my designs on a T-shirt instead of a tumbler or mug!

And, once again, it's dealing with SUPER HEROES!!!

Super Hero Teacher!

The "E" stands for the school name and I used the school's colors of red and white.  The teachers will be wearing these and suggesting things like "algebra" or "chemistry" as their super power for the year.  I absolutely love it!

Have a fantastic Saturday and thanks for stopping by!

Sports Bottles for Birthday Parties!

Good morning, everyone!

Just a quick post today showing off some of the requests I've had lately for sports bottles for birthday party favors.

Super Hero Theme!
These were an assortment that headed to New York!  The boys got blue and red bottles and the girls got pink and purple.  I love the little girl super hero!

All of the cute super hero names on the back!
These have been my biggest seller and what a great gift for the kids for coming.  I'm down to about 2 dozen of these type water bottles and can't get any more of them........but, I have other really cute ones that I'm using instead.

Flowers & Stars Theme!
Lots of lucky little girls getting these water bottles with pretty posies all over.

The boys attending this party will get stars instead of the flowers!

Farm Theme!
These have turned out adorable.  The lucky birthday boys (2 brothers) are having their party on a farm.  Mom loved the little tractors and has a water bottle for each attendee.

Aren't the pink ones just adorable???  She also ordered some with no names in case someone arrives that didn't RSVP.  Smart thinking!

Great idea for parties!  I may be making some of these for my school kiddos this year.  With all of the different name spellings, it will be nice that they can have something personalized.

Have a fantastic day and thanks for stopping by!

Skipping Stones Sketch #140

Good Morning, everyone!!!

Welcome to SSD's Challenge 140!
It's the first Tuesday in August which means we have a new crew to introduce!

This month, Skipping Stones Design is trying something a bit different.  We are going RETRO!!!  What is that you ask???  We are pulling some old, but popular sketches out of our bag.  What better way to go retro than to start with Sketch #1!

Of course, we need some inspiration from some guest designers, too!  Annette Witherspoon and  Tenia Nelson will  be joining us for the month of August and I can't wait to see what they create using the retro sketches.

Uplifted going RETRO!
Oh, how I love paper-piecing!  I got to do just that with the hills and the balloon!  So, fun!

This is just another view so that you can see the balloon popped up on dimensionals.  I used Copics to color the balloon under it, so if anyone peeked, it would match!  ;-)

Here's your RETRO sketch for this week!

Materials Used (All PTI, unless otherwise noted):
Skipping Stones Design - Uplifting stamp set
Cosmo Cricket patterned paper - Tea for Two
Simply Chartreuse & Vintage Cream cardstock
Memento ink - Tuxedo Black
American Crafts ribbon - Campy Trails

Outlawz CAS Challenge - School Items

Good morning, everyone!

It's Sunday, so it must be time for a CAS Outlawz challenge!

Here is your challenge this week.....
It's back to school time at the end of the month for me!  We start on the 27th with students!  In honor of some mom's getting more crafty time at the end of this month, create a Clean And Simple card featuring a school item (apples, pencils, crayons, alphabet or numbers, etc.)

I decided to create a bookmark that features handwriting and books as my school items.

When the cover of the book is closed you get to see the colored image.

This image folds up to "grasp" the page in front of it.

Here's what it looks like gripping the page behind it.

Please join us at the Outlawz for this fun challenge.
You can also find other challenges for EVERY day of the week.  I'd be glad to help anyone who joins the forum and needs some help.

When you submit each of your entries with the Inlinkz tab, at the end of every month there are huge prizes to be won!!!
Go check it out!!!

I can't wait to see your cards!!!

Materials Used (all PTI, unless otherwise noted):
All Booked Up stamp set
Half & Half dies
Mat Stack #3 die
 Dearest Jane patterned paper
Rustic Cream and Dark Chocolate cardstock
Dark Chocolate ink
Copic markers - BG000/02, BV00/02, G07, RV55 and E39/81

I've got some BLING!!!

Good morning, everyone!

I'm back with another Silhouette Cameo T-shirt......But.....This one is for me AND it's got some bling!

This was soooooooooooooo fun to create!  One of the features of the Cameo is that has a "rhinestone" button.  You can simply use any line-art image to turn into a design with rhinestones!  Now, if you are looking for images to sell, you do have to be careful of copyright issues.....but, since this one was for me....I'm good to go!

I went looking for a coffee cup that I liked through Google Images.  In order to make it work, I had to import the image into the design software and fill the design with black.  Once that was complete, I used the trace function to trace the wording and cup.  Finally, I hit that magic "rhinestone" button and it created a template of circles for the Cameo to cut.

Once that step is complete and the template is cut and adhered to a backing board, you simply pour your rhinestones over all of the little wholes and brush them in to place.  This took much more time than I had anticipated because I used 2 different colored rhinestones.  In the end, I decided it was worth it.  ;-)

Finally, using transfer tape, you lift all of those rhinestones up, place it on your T-shirt and use a hot iron to adhere them.  I've gotten to wear my shirt on several occasions and have gotten compliments every time.  I love my shirt!

I love having 2 colors of rhinestones, it really makes a big difference in the design!

Since Michael's & JoAnn's had all of their Jerzee T-shirts on sale for $2.50 a few weeks ago, let's just say I have plenty to dabble with......lol  I even have plans of making a "flip flop" T-shirt sometime soon.

SSD - Tips & Tricks Thursday!

Hi, everyone!

I know that many of you already know what 2nd generation stamping is, but adding color to those images can be tricky.

For those of you who don't know what 2nd (or 3rd) generation stamping is, it's when you stamp your image once and then immediately stamp it again withOUT inking your stamp in between each application.  In my card below, I used both 2nd and 3rd generation stamping.

This is often how I begin a card that I don't have any ideas for the layout.  I fold an 8.5"x11" piece of copy paper into fours and get out the stamp set that I'm going to use.  Since Healing Wings is SSD's Feature Stamp Set for August, I couldn't wait to use it.

I started with the sketch on the right and something seemed "off" to me.  Then I realized, if the butterfly was flying AWAY, the shadow would be left behind.  So, I stamped the images again with the same layout on the left.  I liked how the butterfly went from lighter to darker, much better.

I also used my Copics at this point to make sure I liked the combinations before I got to my final card.  I wanted to keep with "lighter to darker" theme, so I picked colors that were muted and worked toward more vibrant so that it would match the intensity of the black image that I stamped.

The first thing I did was cut my two layers.  The orange base layer was 4"x 5.25". And, my white image panel was 3.75"x5".

In this photo, you can see that I have scratch paper under my project so that I could "stamp" off the ink as I went.  I actually started with the lightest image so it would end up above the wording like I planned.  In order to stamp that image first, I had to ink my stamp and then stamp it off twice.  For the middle butterfly, I did the same thing, only I stamped it off once.  Finally, I inked up the butterfly for the last time and used it full strength for the top image.

I chose to use Copic markers with this card, but any coloring tool would work.  When coloring these images, especially the lightest image, you have color using colors that match the intensity.  So, for each butterfly, I laid out the colors I wanted to use.  Then, I started with the darker of the two colors and worked from the body out making flicking motions with the brush tip end of the Copic.  Then I colored the rest of the wing with the lighter yellow shade.

Finally, I mounted my 2 panels (orange and white) and then adhered those to the light gray base.  You can't see it in the photo, but I also added some Smooch to the top butterfly and it is glittering in all it's glory.

I hope you enjoyed learning how to color those 2nd and 3rd generation stamping images.  Perhaps you can use this "trick" on your card for our challenge.  I'd love to see how you interpret this technique.

Materials Used:
Skipping Stones Designs - Healing Wings stamp set
Orange Zest and Soft Stone cardstock
Copic - X-Press It cardstock
Memento ink - Tuxedo Black
Copic markers - Y15/23 and YR12/20/30/68
Smooch - Illuminate
