SCS Sketch Challenge

Hi, everyone!!!
Late post for me tonight........but, I did get a card made after work.

I had another very tough card to make as a friend's father was diagnosed with cancer.  He's such a supporter of our school and works so hard to make sure it's a safe place for our students.  I totally admire and respect him and all of his work with our district.

Despite this evil disease trying to take over, I'm hoping he finds strength in his friends, supporters, colleagues and family and that his treatments are effective.  Lots of prayers are going out to him and his family.

This sentiment from Paper & Such is so perfect for this card on so many levels.

I'm using the SCS Sketch #374 for this card.  I did rotate the sketch so that my sentiment would fit perfectly in the middle.

Materials Used (All PTI, unless otherwise noted):
Paper and Such - Just Sayin' stamp set
Argyle Socks patterned paper
Enchanted Evening and Stampers' Select White cardstock
a*muse studio ink - Navy
VersaFine ink - Onyx Black

Paper and Such Paper Piecing Challenge

Good morning, everyone!
This is my 2nd post for today........and also a 2nd challenge for today.  If you are looking for the Skipping Stones Design sketch challenge, click HERE!

The Paper and Such blog hosts challenges the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month.
This week's challenge is a paper-piecing challenge!

I have to say that paper-piecing is one of my most favorite techniques when making cards.  If you are not top notch with your Copic coloring, like me, then paper-piecing works wonderfully!  You can make a big impact by just using your Copics for the shadowing!

I used Copic colors that were close to the patterned paper on both the balloon and the little girl's dress to add some deeper shadows.  It really helps to make the image appear 3-D!

Once you have your project completed be sure to go back to the Paper and Such blog and enter it for a chance to win!

I used this older SCS #369 sketch for my card and it worked great for the tall image.  Nice thing about SCS is that you can always post your cards in their forum after a sketch challenge is closed!

Materials Used:
Paper and Such - You Lift Me stamp set
Fancy Pants patterned paper - Love Story
PTI cardstock - Sweet Blush, Hawaiian Shores and Raspberry Fizz
Memento ink - Tuxedo Black
VersaFine ink - Onyx Black
Copic markers - BG10/57, E00/000/53, R20, RV11/17, Y23, YR23 and T1
Want2Scrap - Turquoise rhinestones

Skipping Stones Designs #117 Sketch Challenge

Good Morning, everyone!!!

Welcome to SSD's Sketch Challenge 117!

I'd like to thank Kazan Clark for working her magic the entire month of February!  Barb Turpin and  Cyndi Bundy also did a fantastic job providing all of us with the motivation we needed to bring Kazan's sketches to life.

Here's my take on Kazan's last sketch of the month!
I used many of the ingredients that came in my Simon Says Stamp March card kit.  I hate to say it, but it's almost gone because I just loved EVERYTHING about the kit this month.

I used SSD's Garden Kissing stamp set and did the "kissing" technique to stamp the bird.  I just love the way it came out.  There's even a little "How To" video HERE showing you this technique.

Here's Sketch #117!

I hope you get some time to ink up and play with the Skipping Stones team this week!

Materials Used:
Skipping Stones Design - Garden Stamp Kiss stamp set
My Mind's Eye patterned paper - Be Amazing Follow Your Heart
PTI - Canyon Clay and Kraft cardstock
PTI - Terracotta Tile ink
May Arts Tangerine and White Stitched Ribbon
Prima flowers

SCS Featured Stamper Challenge

Good morning, everyone!

One of my DT buddies on the Paper and Such team is being recognized as the Feature Stamper this week over at Split Coast Stampers!  Janice has a style that I truly love!  So, with this challenge, you get to pick one of her cards and "copy and steal everything."  Only rule of the challenge is to change at least 2 things.

I chose THIS card of Janice's to CASE.  I loved the embossed layer and the simple tag on the front with the image.  But, I chose to change the both embossing folder and use a new tag that I received from PTI's January release.  I did keep her idea of using some twine over top the ribbon.  Very cute addition!

Here's my CASE of one of Janice's cards!
I used Liquid Pearls for the flower centers and it matched the Summer Sunrise ribbon and cardstock perfectly!

I'm also entering this into the Play Date Cafe #120 Color Challenge.  I'm not sure if you can see it, but the green layer is matting the white cardstock.  These 3 colors look absolutely awesome together!

Congratulations, Janice!

Materials Used (all PTI, unless otherwise noted):
Paper and Such - Just Sayin' stamp set
Sizzix embossing folder - Elegant Bouquet
Happy Day die
Blueberry Sky, Simply Chartreuse, Summer Sunrise and Stampers' Select White cardstock
Summer Sunrise Swiss Dot ribbon
The Twinery twine - Shore
VersaFine ink - Onyx Black
Liquid Pearls - Buttercup

Tips & Tricks Thursday Tutorial!

Good morning, everyone!
Welcome to Skipping Stones Design's Tips & Tricks Thursday!

Today I'm going to show you how to make your own shimmery, custom colored inks using distress inks and Perfect Pearls mist.

Have you ever wanted to use a color of ink that you just don't have in your stash?  I ran across this exact problem while making my DT card for a sketch challenge last week.

I wanted to use the raspberry in the Friendly Fruits stamp set, but I didn't have any purplish, red colors.  I have lots of reds........and lots of purples, but not that perfect "raspberry" color.......so, I decided to make my own.

Here's what you'll need:
Two or more distress inks
Aqua Pen (I didn't have any water in mine for this technique)
Perfect Pearls Mist
Memento ink
Kraft sheet or large acrylic block (for mixing ink)

I chose to use 2 Tim Holtz limited edition distress inks to mix together to make my "raspberry" ink......Seedless Preserves and Festive Berries.

Rub each stamp pad directly onto the kraft sheet in separate spots and then spray about 3 sprays of Perfect pearls near the center.  Using your aqua brush, pull the colors together and mix in the center.

Finally, after you get a color you want to use, paint the images carefully using the aqua brush.

This is what you'll come out with!
The color perfectly matches my ribbon!  I also used it to sponge around the edges of each of the circles using a foam pad on a blending tool.

The finished product!

I would love to see the custom colors you create using this technique.  If you find a great combination, please leave a comment so that others can experiment along with us!

I hope you've enjoyed this week's Tips & Trick's Thursday!!!

Happy Stampin'!!!

Blog Candy for a Special Occasion...........

Good Morning, everyone!

Blog Candy???
A special occasion???

You bet!
I just have to brag a little bit.  ;-)

I've finally been published!!!

Back in early November, I received an email Helen Self who is Freelance Deputy Editor of Papercraft Inspirations.  She happened along my blog and absolutely loved one of my cards and wanted to publish it in a 2-page gallery for bloggers around the world.  Of course, I was absolutely floored and totally accepted!

I had originally submitted THIS card to 2 other magazines and it didn't get picked up.  So, to say I was just a little bit excited is an understatement.  I've submitted cards many times, but to no avail, I just can't seem to produce what the editors are looking for.  After Helen emailed me, it made me wonder just who visits our blogs.

Here's a peek at the magazine cover!
It went on sale in December in the UK, but a friend picked it up for me last week, here in Pennyslvania.

And, here's a peek at my page!
It may be a tiny picture, but I'm thrilled, just the same.  You can click to enlarge this photo so you can read the little caption.  ;-)

Blog Candy......
I didn't forget!

I'm going to be giving away 1 of the free Thank-You stamp sets that was given away by PTI for the December release.  I was lucky enough to place a few orders and have an extra one.  I'll also be throwing in some other goodies to make a nice little Stampin' package.

You will have a few ways to earn entries for this mini stamp set:

***One entry will be earned by commenting on your feelings of when you first got published.....or which magazines you have submitted to and hope to get published by.

***One entry will be earned by following my blog.  If you are already a follower, just mention that in your post.

***One entry will be earned by following my Facebook page.  Again, if you already follow me on FB, just mention that in your post.

Here are the details:
You will have until midnight, Wednesday, February 29th to submit all of your entries for the drawing.  I will then put all entries into a hat and draw a winner on March 1st.  Winner will be posted on Friday, March 2nd right here on my blog.  Good luck!

Thanks from the bottom of my heart in sharing my good news.  I know it's a tiny little blurb, but it's my very first publication.........It can only get better from here, right?

Thanks so much for visiting today!

Skipping Stones Designs #116 Sketch Challenge!

Good Morning, everyone!!!

Welcome to SSD's Sketch Challenge 116!

Once again, Kazan Clark is working her magic as our guest sketch artist for the month of February!  Along with her are Barb Turpin and  Cyndi Bundy.  These creative ladies are our guest designers and will be sure to impress.

Two for the price of one!

I ended up creating 2 of these cards because when I cut the patterned paper, it was 6 of those little blocks across.  I couldn't see letting the 2nd one of the same size go into my scrap box, so I just made 2 of them.

You may not be able to tell in the picture (you can definitely see it if you enlarge the photo), but those butterflies are covered in Stickles and are really gorgeous!  I love all that bling!

Here's Sketch #116!

Originally, I was really struggling with this sketch.  Then I started looking through my new My Mind's Eye patterned paper.  When I found the "jeans" paper, I was ecstatic!  It worked with the sketch perfectly.  So, take a walk through all of that hoarded paper.  You may have something that makes it work for you, like I did.

Materials Used:
Skipping Stones Design - Garden Stamp Kiss stamp set
Skipping Stones Design - Always Here stamp set (Birthday sentiment)
Skipping Stones Design - Beautiful Botanicals stamp set (Mother's Day sentiment - Releasing in March)
My Mind's Eye patterned paper - On the Bright Side - One
PTI - Spring Moss, Spring Rain, Canyon Clay and Vintage Cream cardstock
Canyon Clay dye ink

Masculine Birthday card!

Good morning, everyone!
Here's a really quick post with a masculine birthday card.

I pulled the color palette from the patterned paper that I stamped the sentiment on.  Loved these colors together and I hope they fit the "masculine" theme of the card.

The neat sentiment panel was made by using the Mega Mat Stack #1 die and trimming the top and the bottom away.  I love the rounded, edged rectangle shape it became.  Perfect for this sentiment!

Materials Used (all PTI, unless otherwise noted):
Think Big Favorites #12 stamp set
Dot Spot stamp set
 Impression Obsession Cover-a-Card - Scratches
Mega Mat Stack #1 die
Limitless Layers 1 3/4" Circles dies
Sew Ribbon - Leaf design
Making Memories patterned paper - Just Chillin'
Rustic White cardstock

50th Anniversary Card!

Hi, everyone!

It's a gorgeous day in PA with the sun shining and birds singing!  It is so hard to believe that it is February 18th and there is no snow on the ground.  This has truly been a welcomed, yet unusual, winter.

Early this morning, I went to work on this card.

The "50th Wedding Anniversary" was cut using my Silhouette Cameo and I stamped the "Happy" sentiment, after I assembled the cut out letters.  The card seemed to need something else, so I heat embossed some Fancy Flourishes to "jazz" it up a bit.  You can't tell in the photo but the gold swirl under the sentiment is on gold shimmer cardstock and really pops.

In order to tie the front to the inside, I matted the sentiment panel on the gold shimmer cardstock and I love the way it turned out.

I can't imagine reaching this milestone and hope that the blessed couple enjoys this very special milestone!

Materials Used (All PTI, unless otherwise noted):
Verve - Anniversary Birds stamp set
Verve - Happy Thoughts stamp set
Fancy Flourishes stamp set
True Black, Gold Shimmer and Stampers' Select White cardstock
VersaFine ink - Onyx Black
Filigree embossing powder - Clear

CPS 5th Anniversary Sketch - Day 13 Challenge

Hello, everyone!

Here's a quick post with another card for the CPS 5th Anniversary challenges.

I have another masculine birthday coming up, so this will fit the bill nicely!  Especially since the recipient is a big time Steeler fan!

Happy Birthday, little brother! ;-)
Love ya!

Here's what I made for the Day 13 sketch!
I got the "Brother" stamp so long ago, but had never used it until this card.

I think I like this inside better than the outside.......lol

For the Day 13 CPS Sketch challenge, Lee chose CPS Sketch #121.  In order for this card to work with the large "Brother" sentiment, I had to turn it 90 degrees.  It actually works rather well.

Materials Used (all PTI, unless otherwise noted):
Skipping Stones Design - Grunge 1 & 2 stamp sets
Technique Tuesday - O Brother stamp set
Star Prints stamp set
Big Birthday Wishes stamp set (inside)
Signature Greetings stamp set (inside)
Nesties - Standard Circles: Small
Seeing Stars dies
Distressed Dots patterned paper
Summer Sunrise, True Black and Smokey Shadow cardstock
