Shy Bear with a Mojo Monday 171 Sketch Challenge!

Happy New Year's Eve, everyone!!!  I'm so happy because I have just been playing in my craft cave all day, today.   I'll pop upstairs to get things ready for tonight.....but, then I'm right back downstairs working on ideas again.

This adorable Shy Bear comes at a perfect time...........because..........my vacation is coming to an end very quickly and this will be me getting up early again for my workday.

I loved this easy sketch by Mojo Monday, but didn't have a clue what I was going to use with it.  Then I downloaded this adorable Shy Bear Cup a Joe Bear and I'm a Real Bear sentiment and knew they work perfectly with the square sketch. Next, I had to pick out my patterned paper before I started coloring........so, I got out October Afternoon's Modern Homemaker design paper.  I got this with my Taylored Expressions Key Ingredients kit for November and was actually sort of worried because, to be honest, they weren't my favorites.  Once I started looking at them with the Shy Bear image, several of them jumped right out at me.  And after making this card with that design paper......I did 3 more different cards using it.....lol.  You'll see those coming up Monday for another Squigglefly Monday post.

Lesson Learned:
You may not like a design paper right away, but once you find the perfect image to go with it, it may become a favorite!

Don't you just love the little frame with the sentiment???  That's a FREEBIE at Squigglefly!  They have many to offer so that you can try using their images before you actually purchase any of them.
Can you see the shiny, almost real looking coffee???  I used Diamond Glaze over top to make that coffee pop!  I can almost smell it.  Can't you?

I did manipulate the saying and the frame digitally before actually printing it out.  Using Paint Shop Pro, I sized both images so that the sentiment would fit inside the Journal frame image.  Then I took out all of the background (white) using the magic wand tool........and finally, added the red to the letters using the paint can tool.  The only reason I digitally colored the sentiment was because I was worried about the spaces being way too tiny for me to get in there with a Copic.  I did color the actual border to the frame with one of the Copic colors that I used in the cup.  Then, I used a silver glitter pen to trace over the little swirlies on each side of the frame.  Finally, I cut around the frame and then just used a small, scalloped Nestie circle to put behind it.  Popped it up on a dimensional, and there you have it.

Materials Used:
Squigglefly images - Journal Frame, Shy Bear Cup a Joe Bear and I'm a real bear 'til I've had my Coffee sentiment
Taylored Expressions - Buttercream and Maraschino card stock
October Afternoon design paper - Modern Homemaker
Gelly Roll Glitter Pen - Silver Star
Copic markers - E17, E18, E35, E53, RV13, BG10, BG11, BG13, R24, R27
Diamond Glaze

If you'd like a chance for some of these adorable Squigglefly images, I am offering Squigglefly Blog Candy in another post:

You have until midnight, tonight ..... December 31st, 2010 to make your choices and to be entered into the drawing.  There are going to be 3 winners, so your chances are definitely good!

Stylish Blogger Award!

I have truly been honored by receiving this Blogger Award by 2 fantastic ladies.......Amy of Stamp-n-Paradise and Kim of Paper Perfect Designs.  These ladies are both so creative, so you will totally understand why I am completely beside myself that they chose my blog to pass along the award.  A great big thanks to both of you!!

Rules that accompany this award:
1. Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this
2. Share 8 things about yourself
3. Pay it forward to bloggers that you have recently discovered

8 Things About Me!
  1. I started stamping on July 28th of this year.....and have totally been smitten with it.
  2. I started blogging on August 9th of this year!  Love using the computer so I'm not quite sure why I hadn't tried sooner.
  3. My husband and I don't have children, so I make the 18-24 students I have every year my own.  Which leads to.............
  4. I'm a 5th grade teacher at a very small public school and I love every bit of what I do.  I can't imagine not being a teacher and not being able to see those kiddos every day.
  5. My husband is in graphic design and seems to be quite impressed with my creativity in card making.  Since I can't even draw a good "stick man", I think he's seeing that I can do some creative, crafty things on my own.  ;-)
  6. I have an amazing group of 7 ladies (all teachers or retired teachers) that I am honored to call my "best" friends.  They are always there for me and as a group we do such fun, fun things together.  When is our next get-together???
  7. I'm totally addicted to my Cuisinart Keurig coffee maker!........The bolder the better.  Can you say Jet Feul?  Wake-Up Call?  Rain Forest Extra Bold Espresso?  Santa's Buzz?   Yep!  These are just a few of the names of my favorite strong coffees that keep me going throughout the day!
  8. I haven't watched a single TV show since starting my card making.  No lie!!!  Dropped watching Grey's, Private Practice, Glee, Biggest Loser....all of them!  I just come home, cook dinner and then hit the craft room or computer to get the most recent sketch or color challenges.  I may actually have to admit that I do have a problem.....................

And finally, the 3 bloggers that I totally enjoy visiting (I saved the best for last):

1. Stephanie Washburn of Sweetsteph Card Creations Blog - I promise that I didn't chose Stephanie because of her name (although I am personally biased....lol).  I chose her because she totally ROCKS when it comes to colors and combining stamp sets.

2.  Kristin of the Happy Everything Blog - Kristin and I recently joined a PaperTrey Ink group that like to support each other in all of their crafty blog posts.  Kristin just always blows me away with her beautiful creations.

3. Laurie of the Soapbox Creations Blog - And last but not least.........Laurie just makes my jaw drop when I see many of her cards.  She posts frequently and is always entering different card challenges, so when I see her name as a "winner", I almost feel like saying......."Hey, I know her!" lol

Please take a look at each of those blogs......You'll definitely be inspired.

Once again, thank you Amy and Kim.........I'm glad I can pass along a bit of creativity to someone else.

WOW!!!  That truly was a fun look back at so many cards that I had forgotten about .... and this isn't nearly as many cards as most card makers have because I didn't start until the end of July!!!  Still, having 5 months of cards to chose from was very difficult to pick JUST 10......then to put them in order was even more difficult.

I can't wait to see what others have made this year......and I'd really like to see yours, as well!

Christmas Card for "My Mikes"

Yep!!! He's all mine! No trades! No Give-backs!  Who am I talking about?  My wonderful husband.  I don't quite know when I started calling him "Mikes" but it has become my "pet" name for him over the years.  So now you are wondering why I'm telling you this..........well, because you will see it on his card.

You can't see it here, but inside the bird that is dropping the star, I colored all of those dots red to match the belly of our "Red" that comes to visit daily (read below).
You may be wondering why I would use birds on my husbands card.  Well, we have two cardinals that live around our house and in our trees.  Mike has named them "Red" and "Loretta."  We see them every day outside on our trees and they make a nest every spring on our front porch.

Inside was digitally thanks to The Crafty Nomad blog and Tiffany Doodles!
This inside was all done digitally.  Just click on those links in the caption and it will take you directly to the freebie images that I used.  I simply downloaded them and arranged them in word to fit on the the white card stock.  Then I altered their color in word so that they wouldn't just be black. The holly border was just perfect because it tied in the holly that I stamped on the tree for the front.

Here's a close-up of that snow.  I have never used Flower Soft before and I just love the effect it gives!  So snowy and pretty!
I used a piece of pearlized vellum that I cut into a hillside.  Then, I used the thick end of my Tombow glue and spread it over the top of the hill.  Next, I sprinkled on the Flower Soft....and out came such a wintry scene.

Materials Used (All PTI, unless otherwise noted):
Merry Little Christmas stamp set
Vintage Ornaments stamp set (outside sentiment)
Pure Poppy, Pine Feather and Stamper's Select White cardstock
Michael's - Pearlized vellum
Flower Soft - Polar White
Color Box chalk ink - Warm Red
The Crafty Nomad - Holly Border
Tiffany Doodles - "All I Want for Christmas" sentiment

Thanks so much for taking a peek at my blog today!!!
Have a great Tuesday!

Squigglefly Monday!!!

I know it's not the New Year and my term w/ Squigglefly doesn't begin until January........but, a girl's gotta get into the swing of things.  Right?

This little Shy Bear by Lynne Stansbery is one of my favorite lines over at Squigglefly.  I purchased him when I found out I was going to be on the design team so that I would have some "wintry" images to play with.  He definitely fits the bill.  Don't ya think?  You should see all of the Shy Bear images that are available and each and every one of them is so, so adorable.

So, what's more fun than Shy Bear sledding in December?  Nothing, except maybe relaxing while coloring him up and decorating the perfect card for him to go on!  I had such fun with this image and matching him with patterned paper, ribbon and glitz!

Take a look!

I just love this Echo Park paper!  It's perfect for this card.  I decided not to put a sentiment on the outside......this way, it can be used at any time this winter.

I tried to get the Spica on those snow mounds and you see a little sparkle close to the bottom, but not nearly as nice as it is in real life.  At least you can see the Flower Soft on the hat.

The first thing I do when I decide to color an image is to figure out what patterned paper(s) I'm going to use with it.  Once I have them picked, I match those with Copic markers........just to be sure the color is pulled through the image I chose.  Then I relax and color away.

After I colored this image, I knew it needed some "oomph."  I added Polar White Flower Soft to his hat using some Tombow glue and then tried out my new Clear - At You Spica Copic glitter pen over the snow mounds in the image.  You should see how glittery and fun the image looks in real life.  It just really jumps out at you.  Finally, I decided to use some snowflake brads and ribbons from my new Taylored Expressions December Key Ingredients Kit to pull it all together.

Thanks for taking the time out of your day to visit my blog!

Materials Used:
Squigglefly - Shy Bear: Slippery Sled Bear
Echo Park patterned paper - Wintertime
Taylored Expressions - Typhoon and Jetstream card stock, snowflake brads and ribbon
Flower Soft - Polar White
At You Spica pen - Clear
Copic markers - RV14, E17, E18, E53, E97, E99, C5, B91, B95, B97

Papertrey December Blog Hop Challenge!!!

Yayyyyyyyyyy!!!!  Another PTI Blog Hop!!!  I can't wait to get inspired by everyone's creations!

For December's Blog Hop, this was the challenge......

Leftovers Challenge!!!
It's that time again for our annual holiday leftovers challenge! Use scraps of wrapping paper, parts of holiday cards, recycle gift tags or bits of ribbon on a paper crafting project. We all have plenty of it laying around after all the holiday excitement and this is your chance to incorporate some of those pretty little things into an amazing piece of art!

I really am joining this Blog Hop with a mission in mind!!!  Every year I create a huge buffet table with all kinds of snacky foods for our out-of-town visiting guests.  They usually arrive after eating dinner at their families' homes so I just want to have "nibbles" out.  I usually make several dips and serve them with veggies, crackers and pita chips.  THIS year.......I wanted to have them labeled because inevitably I always get asked......"What is this dip?" or "What is this flavor?"    With these "Dip Tents" beside each one, I won't have to answer these questions over and over again.

I truly used all kinds of leftovers.  The main one was the little Tiny Treats: Christmas tags I made for M&M stix in November.  Somehow, I ended up with about 15 of these matted circles left over.  I was so upset that I made that many extra.......Now they are proving to come in handy!

All of the crinkled wrapping paper was from gifts that DH and I used on our presents this year.  He didn't take out the "wrapping paper" trash yet today......so, I dug through the bag......lol

This is my favorite of the three........but, I just noticed that I have to straighten out the placecard topper before the guests get here.

This was DH's favorite wrapping paper.....the red & white mints with a light blue background.  It went perfectly with the Christmas prints design paper.

Here are all 3 together.  You can tell I used scraps because none of them are the same height....lol  At least I used up scrap card stock and design paper and didn't have to cut anything new.

Everything came from my scrap paper box or the garbage "wrapping paper" bag.  I only had to use the Mat Stack #1 Collection stamps for the 3 lines to write the name of my dip.  They came together pretty quickly and I can't wait to put them out with all of the nibbles tonight when our guests arrive.

Materials Used (All PTI, unless otherwise noted):
Tiny Treats: Christmas & Mat Stack #1 Collection stamp sets
Placecard & Limitless Layers: Circles dies
Christmas Prints and 2008 Bitty Dot Basics design paper
Ripe Avocado, Pure Poppy & PineFeather card stock
Creative Memories - Tearing Tool
VersaFine - Onyx Black
Copic markers
Various used wrapping paper scraps

Off to your next blog!!!
 Happy Stamping!!!

A Little Christmas for my best friends

I have a group of 7 other ladies that I do sooooooooooo many things with.  We are such a close-knit group, and I love that we share in so much.

A few years back, we started attending a local wine festival together.  We now rent a condo and stay for 3-4 days and laugh so hard that we come home with sore abs.  I love these girls with all my heart...........Their friendship means the world to me.

I have been showing them my creations thus far, but this one is a secret, so shhhhhhhhhhhh!

So, as mentioned in a previous post, I have been interested in Copic markers.  When I placed my order with Oozaks (the fastest shipper in the west..........well, the East, but you get the picture), I also ordered my first Penny Black wood mounted stamp.  When I saw it, I knew who I would be using it for.

For this card, I used all Papertrey Ink products and really like my finished card.  I added some glitter on the hats and heat embossed the cheers.  I used PTI's Holiday Wishes stamp set on the inside and it really turned out perfectly.  I even used Suzanne Dean's tutorial for hair coloring to match each of my friends with a card that matches their hair color..........How anal is that?  ;-)

My "blondie"!

My "brunette!"
The inside.

Now that all of the girls have their cards........I can post for you to see!  It's so much fun surprising others with items you make personally for them.

Wine Tag for Christmas w/ my girls!!!!

Tomorrow night........is my Christmas party with the bestest friends in the whole wide world.  There are 8 of us that travel together, eat together, meet together and cry together.  These ladies mean everything to me.  So, because I'm teaching all day, I just get to bring a bottle of wine.

I opted for something "Bubbly"...........just because of my NEW A la Modes from MFT.  They were in my mailbox when I got home and rushed to put something together for our party tomorrow.  It turned out adorable!

Don't you just love the bling for the bubbles???  I just love this sentiment.  It says, "Time for the Big Girl Bubbles"  Too fun!

I simply colored up this sassy little lady with Copic markers and then I paper-pieced her cute little dress.  I added the tiny twinkles to her champagne glass and then used a dimensional to put her on a 4" paper doily.  Last, I stamped the sentiment in silver......gotta have that bling AND some glitz!  This is already in the bag ready to go and will be chilled because it will be in my car all day.......lol  I think the girls will love it!

Materials Used:
MFT - Cheers A la Modes
PTI - 2008 Bitty Dot Basics patterned paper
Taylored Expressions - Crystal Tiny Twinkles
Brilliance ink - Starlite Silver
Copic Markers - E00, E000, E11, RV10, RV11, E17, E18, E35, C1, C2, C9

Tissue Box Cover and Gift Card Holder

My last gift was finished tonight!!!  I made this tissue box cover for my mom.  I had seen THIS TUTORIAL on SCS and I couldn't wait to try it.  I also always get her a Bed, Bath and Beyond GC for Christmas but this year I got her 2 others to go with it...........So, I was trying to think of a way to give them to her that was neat and clever.

As I was making the panels to the tissue box cover, I had an idea............

That is a dangerous thing for me, ya know.................

I'm wondering what you will think????

Here goes nothing!

Here is the front using my new MFT Decorative Doily Die and Rolled Rose Die!  That Doily Die is amazing!

Notice anything behind the doily die cuts???  Yep!  The Gift cards!

I have 3 of them for her, so 3 sides have the GCs and the 4th side is the front with the rolled rose!

Materials Used (All PTI, unless otherwise noted):
Turning a New Leaf patterned paper
Ripe Avocado and Dark Chocolate card stock
Dark Chocolate felt and buttons
MFT - Decorative Doily die and Rolled Rose die
Beautiful Blooms #2 die

Is it a corny idea???  I'd love to hear your opinions!

Thank You Purse Card for Off the Wall Color Challenge and Skipping Stones Sketch Challenge

I had a great time making this card.  It was fun and flirty.  It's bright and sassy!  Just what a girl needs!

I used the Off the Wall Craftiness #38 Color Challenge because we ladies just LOVE colorful purses, right???  I took the green from the bright chartreuse color of the Christmas bulbs on the right.  Pair these bright, beautiful colors with some whimsy stamps from Skipping Stones to go along with their sketch challenge and you have the perfect combination.

Here is my colorful and sassy card!

I was trying to catch the canvas texture that I put on the base layer.  I stamped right on top of the texture hoping to create a nice effect with the purse stamps.

Gotta love all of these purses!

Inside just decorated in some little flowers to match the 3 colors on the outside.

Materials Used (all PTI, unless otherwise noted):
Skipping Stones Design - Birthday Purses stamp set
Simply Chartreuse, Raspberry Fizz and Stamper's Select White card stock
Simply Chartreuse and Raspberry Fizz ink
Fillable Frames #10 stamps and die
Color Box chalk ink - Warm Red
Canvas/Linen Impression Plate
Misc. Bright Pink ribbon

Thanks so much for looking!

Good morning, everyone!!!  I have some big, big news to announce.
And ..... since I've posted 100 times since August 9th, 2010,
I've also got some BLOG CANDY to go with it!!!

I've been waiting such a long time (well, not that long, but it feels like it) to tell you that ........................................................................................................................

I have been asked to join the wonderful Squigglefly Design Team
for the January to June 2011 term!!!

I've used Squigglefly images for several cards and Gift Card holders (check my "labels" on the left column to find them all in one place under "Squigglefly")....and just love their very LARGE assortment of images!!!  So, when asked to accept one of these positions......I was quite honored (Thanks, Holly) and a little worried, too!  I'm fairly new to all of this, so along with the excitement comes a bit of anxiousness.  I hope I can give just a little inspiration for those that follow my blog or begin to follow my blog with this new adventure.

So what does this mean??? Mondays on my by blog will now be Squigglefly Mondays!!!  Why Mondays, you may ask?  Because Mondays are the days they post their Squigglefy challenges on their blog using their images.  They are mostly theme challenges and will be great fun!  I will try my best to have something to coordinate with each and every challenge and even give you some inspiration with the new images which are released EVERY Saturday!

But..........You may not have any Squigglefly images to play along, right???? WRONG!!!  First, Squigglefly does offer some freebies that you can use......BUT......I'm going to offer some BLOG CANDY so you can choose your own favorite images!!!

THREE lucky winners will receive 2 images/sentiments of their choice ($3.00 or less) when they respond to this post naming their 2 favorite images from the Squigglefly.com site!!!  Take your time to choose wisely as these WILL BE the 2 images you'll be sent!!!  Just click on the blinkie below and start browsing for your images.

When you are finished choosing, just come back to my blog and post the titles of your choices with your comment for this post.  And, as an extra bonus........ if you add me to your blogs that you follow (Click the "Follow" button on the left hand column), I will put your name in twice!!!!  Just mention that you did this with your post.  If you already ARE a follower, please let me know and you'll get a double chance, too!  Only 1 post per person, please.

I will announce the winners on January 1st, 2011.....This will be just in time to join the first Squigglefly challenge of the year!!!  Contact me with your email addy and I'll have Holly send the two images you picked!!! Easy peasy!!!

Thank-You cards for The Sweetest Thing Sketch Challenge and The Play Date Cafe Color Splash Challenge!!!

I just had to make 2 Thank-You cards for some very important people that have helped our elementary school with a big effort for Christmas.  It touches my heart that people can give as they do when others need so much.  It's at times like these that you are so happy to realize there are GOOD people out there that want to help.

Anyway, I knew that I wanted the cards to be done in black and gold/yellow (those are our school's colors) so that they would show appreciation from the district, as well as myself.  Enter the Play Date Cafe Color Splash #60 Challenge.  With a color splash challenge you only use a "splash" of the color they choose in your card......and since that splash was yellow.......it was perfect timing!

Next, I wanted to use a long, narrow sketch for a long, narrow card.  I recently won a $10 PTI gift certificate in another challenge (Thanks, Ted) but it was burning a whole in my pocket.  I decided to download 2 of Dawn McVey's Color Couture Card Templates offered by PTI (since they are only $5 each).  I knew I wanted December's download and then finally decided on June's template as the 2nd one.  These Tailored Tri-Fold card templates are just AWESOME!!!  I can tell that I will be using these templates very often.  Again, as luck would have it, the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #97 was just perfect for long, narrow cards!!!

I also had some new stamps and dies that I knew I wanted to use.  PTI's Big and Bold Wishes was recommended over and over again on the boards as being a set used often.  I've been wanting this for a long time, and was happy to ink it up today.  Then, I just got the new Bloom Builders #1 die from PTI, also.  It's a long strip of flower petals that once cut out, you can string the petals together to make your own flower embellishments.  I just loveeeeeeeeeee how it turned out.  It took some fiddling, but I'm betting as I make more and more of these the easier it will become.

Here is the final result!!!

Isn't that Tri-Fold card so perfect for the sketch challenge?  The lip becomes the scalloped border in the picture above.  And just look at the wonderful flower embellishment!!!

I added a half piece of velcro in order to hold the card closed so it wouldn't pull/rip the paper flower.

The inside of the card.  I decided against just a white panel to write on.  I think the light yellow adds the perfect touch and you will still be able to read any writing very clearly.

I really think that the 2 recipients of these cards will just love them!  I know I had a wonderful time creating them.

Materials Used - (All PTI, unless otherwise noted)
Smoky Shadow Card stock
2008 Bitty Dot Basics patterned paper
Big & Bold Wishes stamp set
Color Couture June download
Rustic Ivory Twine
VersaFine - Onyx Black
Misc. black button

Just a little side note..........I finally got a personal stamp for the back of my cards.  Many of the people who have purchased my cards have been saying that I need to get a stamp so that others can go to my blog and Etsy shop in order to see my creations for themselves.  This is the stamp I chose and is what I put on the back of these cards.  It's really pretty in person.
My new stamp for the back of my cards purchased from Whimsy Stamps.  I just absolutely love it!!!!

Thanks for looking at my blog post today!!!  I have a super big surprise for you early tomorrow morning!  This was my 100th post so in order to celebrate I have some BLOG CANDY coming!  Be sure to check back!!!
